Sustainable Beauty Trends to Look Out for in 2023

It’s a new year! A new year brings new trends! Beauty continues to grow as one of the leading industries worldwide. Many people are finding their niches in beauty– whether it’s skincare, makeup, or hair care. Because of the high interest in beauty, brands are finding ways to become more creative with their products, addressing specific concerns and/or target audiences. One big trend in beauty is sustainability. People are interested in indulging in beauty products that are innovative, clean, good for the environment, or good for their bodies. Here are a few sustainable beauty trends to look out for this year…

Refillable Packaging

Nowadays, people around the world are trying to find ways to reduce waste. Product packaging has an impact on the environment, so one thing to look out for is refillable packaging. Typically, if a customer sells products with refillable packaging, the company will have a system where customers can return products to product refill sites, get their product refilled, and take the product(s) back home. A good example of a brand that is doing this is Danessa Myricks and her Yummy Skin Serum Foundation.

Products with Untraditional Forms

One thing that we are seeing with a handful of trendy beauty products are products that come in untraditional forms. For example, companies are creating shampoo bars (similar to bars of soap) to minimize plastic usage. Some companies, such as Humanrace are also making products, like cleansers, that dispense powder, but form into a cleanser when water is added. We should also look out for more solid fragrances, similar to what Glossier is doing.

Natural/Chemical-free/Non-toxic Formulas

Some brands are coming out with products that contain ingredients that are more beneficial to the skin than products that most major beauty brands offer. Brands are focused on providing formulas that have fewer chemicals, are non-toxic, and/or vegan. Because of the peaked interest in personal health, non-toxic, clean formulas should only continue to be popular. A good example of a brand that features clean product formulas is Prose; a hair care company specializing in hair care products with vegan, chemical-free formulas.

Growing Interest in Natural Fragrances/Perfumes

As we become more aware of what types of ingredients and chemicals are in most beauty products, some are learning about how harmful perfumes and other fragrances can be. Because of this, we should expect to see a rise in fragrances with natural, plant-based formulas. A great example of a brand specializing in clean perfumes is Henry Rose.
