YouTuber, beauty-guru, entrepreneur, Sasha Anne has made a name for herself garnering internet attention through her makeup videos. Her most popular video, with over 60,000 views, is a makeup tutorial inspired by the Darren Aronofsky directed film, Black Swan.

Her love of make-up inspired her to create her own lip gloss beauty line, Teeny Wee Lip Gloss, which was developed and founded by Sasha when she was only 17. Equally as important as her love for makeup is her affinity with animals. Teeny Wee Lip Gloss was designed to be cruelty free as a compassion for all animals and a personal gesture of love for her dog Chloe.

Where are you based?
I’m from New York and I travel to LA a lot for events, interviews, photoshoots and meetings.

How did you first get into beauty and makeup?
When I was younger, ,I had a hard time expressing myself through words, but faces spoke to me and I would express myself through makeup and costume. I would tell different stories that I wanted people to hear. I think it is still so fascinating what makeup can do. I love to enhance my features and play with different products.

What inspired you to create your YouTube channel? How did it come about?
I would watch youtubers like Bethany Mota and Niki and Gabi beauty and I thought it was so cool what they were doing. I was also made fun of in middle school for my lack of confidence, I was also very shy. I would not participate in class, and if I said the wrong thing I would be laughed at. I felt invisible when I didn’t speak. But when I put on makeup and a costume, I was a different person and I wanted the attention. I made my channel so I could help young girls and boys feel confident and empower them. I want to show them that they can express themselves any way they want. It doesn’t have to be words. l also watched my mom put on her makeup every morning, and so I bought a bunch of makeup from Claire’s and CVS. I would spend hours in the bathroom trying to master the winged eyeliner. Once I somewhat figured it out, I turned on my computer camera and started doing a makeup tutorial. I got a decent amount of views as a 13 year old.

Can you tell us a little bit about your lip gloss beauty line, Teeny Wee Lip Gloss?
Teeny Wee Cosmetics are these tiny lip glosses that fit in your purse or smallest pocket so you can take it with you on the go and touch up.

What inspired you to start Teeny Wee Lip Gloss?
I’ve wanted to start a makeup company since I was 13. I wanted to show young girls and boys that if they’re passionate about something, they should follow their dreams.

They are adorable, but what made you decide to have them so tiny?
I wanted them to be tiny when I saw my mom struggling to fit a regular size gloss or lipstick and phone in her evening bag. She had to hand one or the other to my dad

Why is it important that your products are cruelty-free and PETA certified?
I love animals too much. I have a dog myself and I don’t like when some companies test on animals to see if they have a reaction to the product.

You have done a lot of fun creative make-up looks for your YouTube channel. Do you have a favorite?
Oh my gosh! Do I have to pick just one?! Well, I’m proud of the black swan transformation I did. It took me three hours and longer to edit. I also really liked the Ariel makeup transformation I did, because I filmed it in Italy! Oh, and the Cinderella transformation, I love!

Do you only work with vegan make-up brands when doing your make-up?
Yes! That is very important to me. I now use MAC cosmetics. I used to not use that brand, but now they’re cruelty free in the US.

Do you have any favorite brands?
I absolutely love Too Faced Cosmetics. They’re so pink and feminine, I love the packaging and their products are so fun! I also love Tarte Cosmetics and Urban Decay Cosmetics because Urban Decay loves to promote beauty with an edge and I think that is so cool! And they love to empower women around the world and help build confidence — which is exactly what I try to do.

In addition to your make-up, you are very passionate about working with the poor. You are active with Operation Prom, have worked with Habitat for Humanity, and you traveled to Israel to work with the Colel Chabad group. Can you tell us a little bit about these experiences and why they are so important to you?
I am always busy with a project to help others. I also work with a local organization in my community to provide meals for the poor anonymously. I face paint children’s faces at a carnival to help raise money. This past summer, I was an intern at the Jewish Community Relations Council (“JCRC”). The JCRC advocates for the diverse ethnic, racial and religious communities in NYC helping them thrive and work together to fight poverty, social injustice and hate crimes. Working to help others is extremely important to me. Three of my grandparents were immigrants to the United States without any resources and support. They benefitted from the greatness of this country and it is my responsibility to help others who are disadvantaged.

Jejune loves that you also participated in a cleanup at the Marshlands Conservatory in Rye, New York. What are some steps that you feel we must take to help mitigate and improve the effects of climate change and other environmental damages?
In order to mitigate and improve the effects of climate change and other environmental damages, the public must be educated to change their ways of consumption and disposal of waste. The public must support governmental actions to move our economy away from carbon producing fossil fuels. The public needs to be taught. They need to understand how crucial it is to be conscious of the effect we as human beings have on the environment. We must be vocal and vigilant to keep our precious planet in a position to sustain human life in the future.

What is on the horizon for Sasha Anne?

I am currently getting my songs in my album protected so expect an album this Spring! I am also coming up with some ideas for a book.

What is your life motto? “Have courage and be kind” - Lily J Collins
