Please read our exclusive interview below to learn more about Sophia Strauss and her work.

Where are you based?
Los Angeles, California.

You've been studying musical theatre since the age of five. Did you always know you wanted to be an actor?
When I was little, I would always watch TV dreaming to wave my wand in a Mickey Mouse shape like the Disney stars would. That inspired me to be in plays and pretend I was on Disney channels. Since then, I’ve always wanted to be an actor because of how much I loved acting in front of an audience.

How did you get into acting? Do you remember your first role and the feeling of acting in front of others? My mom helped me a lot coming into acting since I was eight years old and didn’t know much about the industry. I started out taking acting classes and then began getting jobs that my agent would send me, and from there I officially began. I believe my first role was in Victorious in Nickelodeon. I played the daughter in the family that trapped the main stars in their RV. Victorious is now on Netflix so you can go watch, and the episode is called “Survival of the Hottest”.

Can you tell us about the upcoming Amazon Prime series, yA and your role?
Yes, I play the role Blue Ivy. You will be able to notice me easily with my bright blue hair that I had to dye for this show! Let’s just say I did something pretty crazy in my role, so make sure to tune in.

It is always awesome to see young people giving back. We heard that you were one of the youngest runners in the ASPCA Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon. What inspired you to do this run?
When I was about seven years old, I was able to save a dog running around in the street. That dog became mine till this day! I wanted to do more to help animals like my dog, so I became a part of ASPCA. One of the biggest fundraisers they held annually was the ASPCA Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon. My dad and sister agreed to do it which made me want to do it even more. Even though it was very tiring I had such a fun time.

Can you tell us about Zazzy Cat Kitty Rescue and your work with this organization?
I have been working with Zazzy Cats for about six years and it is an organization that never fails to make me happy. Cats are my favorite animals, and being a part of this organization gives me the chance to meet and take care of a variety of cats, even new born kittens. We were able to help over 15 cats get a home, including four of them in our home.

Have you always been an animal lover?
Yes, I was raised with many animals. My house was known as the “zoo”. For my birthday parties, we had a petting zoo which was my own animals. Some of the animals I’ve had were dogs, bunnies, cats, a parrot, lizards, turtles, guinea pig, even a hedgehog! So yes, I love and I always will.

What would you like to see more people do for our animal friends?
I would like to see people adopt from shelters! Adopting is so important because animals shouldn’t be put down for overpopulation.

What is next for Sophia?
I’m a senior in high school right now and the next step is college. I am planning on staying in California so I can continue acting and modeling.

What is your motto in life?
With a negative comes a positive!
