What started your fascination with the power of prickly pear cacti?
I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and prickly pear cacti grew like weeds in Arizona. As I got older, I realized how powerful the prickly pear cactus was and that it was not only used for eating, but also for medicinal purposes.

How did this lead to the creation of PPBody?
As I got older, I became more curious about origin stories of prickly pear cactus and I wanted to learn more about native plants. Since I grew up around prickly pear cactus I wanted to learn more about the history of the plant which is where I learned about its medicinal uses and topical benefits. In my late 20s, I started breaking out with rashes from creams and makeup I would use, overall my skin felt dry and unhealthy so I decided to do a deep dive into why instead of just believing what the media was selling me. I started reading the actual ingredient lists in the products I used for my skin and hair, I was shocked to find that most of them were stuffed with chemicals and filler ingredients that were not beneficial and stripped my skin of everything it actually needed to function.

You are a strong believer that the prickly pear can help with loads of ailments, in and outside the body. What is it about prickly pear that is so beneficial?
Prickly pear cacti produce a fruit that is most commonly known for in drinks, prickly pear margaritas but most people do not know how powerful the pulp and seed of the fruit are. Prickly pears can be useful to help hangovers and even part of the diet to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol. The actual oil from the seed of the fruit is transformative for the skin.

Do you have any favorite prickly pear recipes that you can share with us?
Prickly pear is not commonly mixed with much, you use the pulp for jam, lemonade, and margaritas!

How is it useful for skin and hair regeneration?
Prickly Pear Seed Oil contains a plethora of vitamins, minerals, plant acids, and fatty acids that provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Due to this reason, Prickly Pear Seed Oil is the foundational piece in all our products. This oil alone helps to regenerate and hydrate skin and hair, but we have added additional value to each formula to target and amplify certain functions.

How do you feel PPBody is simplifying the traditional skin care process? How do you want PPBody to change the skincare industry?
The skin industry is full of 5+ step skin routines that actually do the complete opposite of what our skin needs. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and it sure knows how to take care of itself, the more products we use the less it is able to function properly. I started my skincare line to disrupt the skin industry, LESS IS MORE, which is the opposite message of what we hear daily from skincare companies. The most crucial part of skincare is using one effective ingredient and prickly pear oil is exactly that. Our goal is to help people unlearn the unhealthy and untrue narrative created by the skin industry that more is better for your skin. The more you disrupt your skin every day with multiple products filled with unnecessary and unnatural ingredients, the less your body knows how to naturally maintain its healthy microbiome, keep a neutral PH, and regenerate tissue. Our products do not disrupt or overwhelm our skin, it is purely a catalyst to help the largest organ of our body, the skin, do its natural everyday function and its maximum/best capacity.

As we are all looking to look young and beautiful forever, what makes your best-selling night oil, Queen of the Night, such an effective nighttime skin treatment?
Our night oil will blend, renew and hydrate your skin throughout the night. Within weeks you will see a noticeable difference in the complexion of skin, redness, and dark areas. Prickly Pear Seed Oil, which comes from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus, contains a plethora of vitamins, minerals, plant acids, and fatty acids that provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Due to this reason, Prickly Pear Seed Oil is the foundational piece in all our products. This oil alone helps to regenerate and hydrate skin and hair, but we have added additional value to each formula to target and amplify certain functions. Queen of the Night reduces fine lines and wrinkle formation, brightens dark areas, and calms redness all while you are asleep. We have added Baobab Oil and Broccoli Seed Oil to our night oil to encourage deep hydration without clogging pores. These two elements combined leave your complexion even and glowing. For those with eczema, keratosis pilaris, and other skin irritations, our oils have shown incredible results to help calm the skin and minimize flare-ups.

Do you have a must-have product from your line?
I do not go a day without using our morning and night oil. I could say the same for our lip balm but if I was forced to choose, the AM and PM night oil are game changers. You do not need to use them with any other products either, just wash your face and then apply oil.

You advertise that you are very passionate about ethical and responsible business practices. Can you please expand on this? Can you tell us a bit about your sourcing and manufacturing process? Why is this important to you?
The farms and manufacturers we use to source our ingredients ensure that all raw material goes through a very stringent vetting process to ensure quality and that our values and ethics align. We also require a certificate of pesticide analysis from all our farms so we know raw materials and ingredients used in our products are pesticide free. Transparency is what our society lacks and should be at the forefront of everything we do, especially businesses selling everyday products. Our four main pillars are minimal, transparent, effective, and mindful. We created PPBody because we care. Our intention is to move away from archaic societal rules while staying mindful throughout the creative process.

You are very keen on using natural and clean ingredients. Why is this important to you?
The earth literally provides the air we breathe so why would we use any other ingredients other than directly what the earth provides? Cacti grow in abundance around the world and in all climates. They also regenerate soil, provide food, and have medicinal and topical benefits. It is the most underrated plant of its time. Our bodies function best in simplicity, humans tend to overcomplicate and are driven by fast-moving money-making goals. Most skincare products on the shelf have 60-70% water which reduces efficacy and makes it much cheaper for the company to produce when they still mark them at higher prices on the shelf. Natural and clean ingredients benefit your skin more which true results, even though they might be a little more expensive, they will last longer and actually help your skin.

What drives you to continue innovating and developing new products?
Any new products we can look out for? Our focus is to change the skin industry with our transformative prickly pear facial oils. No new products coming out because again, our motto is to keep it simple and DO LESS!

It has been a rough few years, how have you been staying positive?
Our customer base is so loyal, and PPBody has only grown more and more each year.

What is your motto in life?
Honor mama earth in everything we do, every choice we make, and everything we put in and on our bodies.
