Celebrating the U.S. Female Winter Olympics Champions

Now that the 2026 Winter Olympics have finally come to a close, it’s time to highlight all of the incredible U.S. female athletes who made it onto the podium. This year marks a record breaking number of medals won for the U.S. in women’s events. Six out of the 12 gold medals won for the U.S. were won by women, eight if you count mixed team events, and 17 of the 33 total medals won by the U.S. were won by women, increasing to 21 if you count mixed team events. Breaking yet another record, more than 40 American women have left the Games with at least one medal.

Among the American women who won gold is Alysa Liu. Liu retired from figure skating in 2022 at 16 years old, but returned on her own terms two years later and became the first American woman to take the Olympic title in her sport in 24 years with a total score of 226.79. Team USA’s Olympic figure skating team also became the first country to win the event in back-to-back Winter Olympic Games.

Even more records were broken when the U.S. women’s hockey game against Canada became the most watched women’s hockey game on record. One woman on the hockey team in particular, Laila Edwards, made history as the first Black woman to play for Team USA’s Olympic hockey team, the first Black woman to ever score a goal for the USA in the Olympics, and is now also the first Black woman to win Olympic gold with Team USA’s women’s hockey.

Scoring gold and silver in the Women’s Individual Moguls (Freestyle Skiing) , Elizabeth Lemley (gold) and Jaelin Kauf (silver) marked the first time the U.S. has placed first and second in men’s or women’s moguls at a single Olympics.

Winning her third Olympic gold medal in the Women’s Slalom (Alpine Skiing), Mikaela Shiffrin now has the most Olympic alpine gold medals won by any American skier.

From the bobsleigh category, Elana Meyers Taylor is not only the most decorated Black athlete in the history of the Winter Olympics, after the 2026 Games, she is now both the most decorated women’s bobsleigh pilot of all time and the oldest American to win an individual gold medal.
