Where are you based?
Ottawa, Canada.

How did you start singing?
I started singing when I was seven in Holland, which is where I was born. When I moved to Canada in 2010, I started doing more and more shows and it became such a passion for me.

Can you tell us a little bit about your new single?
My new single, ‘Headphones’, is the first song I’ve ever co-written and the message behind it is super relatable — all you need to do is put on your headphones and get lost in the music. Putting on headphones allows you to forget the troubles of the world and the responsibilities you hold.

“Headphones”, what inspired you to create it?
Wanting to put on my headphones and block out the rest of the world is something I feel every day, and that feeling inspired me to write a song that makes everyone feel good.

We see you have performed for AIM For Mental Health’s ‘AIM For Cures’ Fundraiser and JED’s 15th Anniversary Gala ‘Love Is Louder’. Why is making sure there is support for mental health so important?
Good mental health is so important, and uplifting others is such an important thing to do in our society. I think it’s so important for everyone to support each other, and let each other know that to be yourself and to love yourself is the most important thing anyone can do.

Why do you feel it is so important to perform at charity events?
I have been performing at so many charity events all over the world, and at every event I get informed on a new cause and how to help - everything from global warming to mental health. I have performed at these charities, where they have educated me and allowed me to help educate others on the importance of supporting these causes.

Can you tell us about your thoughts on climate change?
Climate change is obviously effecting our environment, especially our flora and fauna. We need to act. Our planet isn’t going to save itself, and it is up to our society to make a difference and correct the pollution that we have caused. We need to save our planet and reserve it as a home for our next generation.

What would you like to see done to fight climate change?
Start by reducing plastic. Grocery stores should not give out plastic bags, only paper bags.

What is your motto in life?
Go with the flow.
