Promoting Kindness With Sydney Brett

New York-based model Sydney Brett is preventing bullying one workshop at a time. Through Sydney’s non-profit organization “Stronger Than You Think,” she implements anti-bullying and mental health education for youth. Sydney's mission is to stop hate at its core, especially as a victim of childhood bullying due to her struggle with dyslexia. Sydney’s curriculum is crucially needed in a world where social media can be the root of insecurities for many impressionable children coming to terms with their identities. If you are interested in Sydney’s work in the modeling industry, her amazing non-profit, or her hope for this generation, please continue reading the interview below!

COVER - Haley Kalil - Smart Girl Summer

Haley Kalil is having a Smart Girl Summer, and we should all join her! As a New York City-based model and scientist, Haley Kalil is breaking barriers and building new standards that empower women in STEM. Haley does not shy away from having it all and does not let society limit her abilities. Currently, she is the CEO of The Nerd Herd, which is a brand at the intersection of beauty and science. Haley acknowledges the double standard between women and men in the STEM field. It is normalized and widely accepted for a man to flaunt their body on the internet without their work being discredited, but we can not say the same for women. However, The Nerd Herd’s mission is to create that safe space for women, educate them on STEM, and make women feel sexy in the process. This is 2022, and women no longer have to choose between being conservative and not being taken seriously in their careers, and Haley is at the forefront of that movement. If you love Haley as much as we do, and want to hear about her advocacy with Black Girls Code, and her journey from STEM to Modeling, please continue reading below!

Cover - New York City Has Hope

New York City has been in lockdown for 106 days. Yes, things are slowly starting to open up, but most of us are still being as careful as possible as COVID rages through the rest of our country. This editorial was shot during the peak of the New York City shelter in place order. Like many business, fashion was hit very hard. As designers were forced to close shops, they were still able to make masks, leaving masks the only new fashion available.

Brains and Beauty: Adaire Byerly's Neural Observations On Human Behavior

As an ex-neuroscientist, I was super excited to hear about Adaire Byerly’s plan to integrate the fashion and entertainment industry with the neuroscience world. As an ex-model herself, she saw an obvious hole in the fashion and entertainment industries where people are not looking beyond the visual, and she wanted to dive in deep, cellularly deep.

Currently, Adaire is looking at the neural exploration of compassion, and she is applying that sensitivity to her company, Entertainment Mindframe, which is bridging the gap between the entertainment industry and science. By incorporating modern-day sciences and her first-hand experience in the industry as an actress/model, she hopes her findings can be implemented into intellectual and developmental training for professionals. Please read our exclusive interview here to learn more about Adaire and her work.

Model Spotlight: Scott Neslage

As our society is constantly debating between being too politically correct or down right racist, the fashion industry, despite being celebrated for being forward thinking, is shockingly behind the times. There are more white models than any other race, and Asian models are a huge minority, particularly Asian men. When Asian men are represented, they are often showcased as exotic or androgynous, almost never as sexual beings. Well, we here at Jejune feel that Scott Neslage ( @scottneslage), from Soul Management, shot by Harold Mindel (@harold.mindel), will help change how the fashion world looks at Asian men!
